Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia joined the Latter-day Saints (LDS) Charities Philippines in turning over 25 sewing machines and dressmaking materials worth P452,000 to the students of the Alangilan National High School at the school’s gym yesterday.
LDS Charities elders Jim and Linda Whitmore, Remus and Yvonne Villarete, and Jairus Perez led the turn over ceremony, a press release from the mayor’s office said.
The donated materials will benefit the junior high dressmaking students of the school, it said.
“We are happy and fulfilled because it will really help in the development of the school and our students, which they can also use as a source of income later on,” school principal Veneranda Ortono said.
In 2018, LDS Charities also donated 150 arm chairs to the school.
After the turnover ceremony, Leonardia also signed a memorandum of agreement with the LDS Charities, Barangay Alangilan, and A Single Drop of Safe Water (ASDSW) to improve the water system in Barangay Alangilan.
The project will benefit Puroks 11, 12, 13 and 14, the Alangilan National High School, and Alberto Arceo Sr. Elementary School.
Joining the event were Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, Councilors Renecito Novero and Ana Marie Palermo, Brgy. Alangilan captain Degie Tanista Sr., and Barangay Singcang-Airport Kagawad Simple Distrito.*
