Murder suspect shot dead
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A murder suspect, who ran amuck and attacked police officers, was shot dead in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, Thursday.

Armed with a bolo, Samuel Palencia, who was under the influence of liquor, attacked persons passing through Zone IV in Brgy. 6-A, Victorias City.

Police investigation showed responding policemen tried to pacify Palencia, who then attacked PO1 Cristan Palmes.

The amuck person managed to get the M-16 rifle of Palmes, who fell on the ground after being hacked and, shot at the police officer. Palmes, however, was not hit.

The colleagues of Palmes, PO2 Louie Jay Loraez and PO3 Ronilo Maru, came to his rescue, by shooting Palencia, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, a police report said.

Palencia was declared dead on arrival at the Ikaayong Lawas Foundation Hospital in Victorias City.

It was later discovered by the police that Palencia has a pending arrest warrant issued by Silay Regional Trial Court Judge Felipe Banzon for murder.*
