‘Liposuction’ kills bizwoman

A businesswoman from Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, reportedly died of complications allegedly after undergoing liposuction at a clinic in Makati City, the police said yesterday.

The Makati Central Police Station (MCPS) p olice identified the victim as Nory Bobadilla, 43.

Bobadilla was reported to have flown to Manila on July 3 to undergo liposuction at Contours Advanced Face and Body Sculpting in South Park Plaza, Paseo de Magallanes.

The police were informed that she stopped breathing during the procedure and was rushed to the Parañaque Doctors Hospital where she went into a coma and died on July 6.

Maj. Gideon Ines, director of the MCPS Crimes Against Person Section, told the Manila media they began investigating the case after relatives of the businesswoman filed a complaint before their office.

Her daughter said she did not inform them that she was going to undergo the procedure and they only learned of it when they received a call that she was comatose.

In a phone interview, Contours legal counsel Roel Pulido told GMA News Online that his clients were “illegally” arrested last July 5 but were released on the same day.

Pulido also said they will withhold comment until the police officially file the complaint.

The police, who are expected to file complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against the doctors, are still waiting for the autopsy results, GMA News Online reported.

Police said the victim's family has spoken to the two doctors who have expressed willingness to cooperate in the investigation.*
