Suspected rebel sued
for attempted murder

A detained suspected New People’s Army rebel was charged on Wednesday for attempted murder, violation of the Comelec gun ban and illegal possession of firearms, before the Kabankalan City Prosecutors Office, provincial police spokesman Chief Inspector Edison Garcia said yesterday.

The respondent identified as Reynan Manlanat, alias Ka July, 21, was captured on Tuesday by Army soldiers, following an encounter with nine suspected NPA members in Brgy. Salong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Troopers of the 15 th Infantry Battalion recovered a .45 caliber Colt MK pistol with a magazine containing seven live ammunition, a MK 2 fragmentation grenade, an improvised 12 gauge shotgun, an ICOM radio, a bolo with scabbard, two cellular phones, two hammocks, and materials for use in the manufacturing of guns, among other items.

Pursuit operations against the fleeing comrades of Manlanat were still ongoing as of yesterday.

The encounter took place as 15IB troopers are also pursuing NPA rebels behind the burning of heavy equipment owned by a private construction firm in Brgy. Carol-an, Kabankalan City, two weeks ago.*
