Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of 400 free-range chicks to beneficiaries from the second and fourth districts, at the Provincial Livestock Breeding Center and Dairy Farm in Barangay La Granja, La Carlota City Wednesday.
This is part of the livelihood program of the provincial government for the farmers organizations.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said Negros Occidental is the country’s top producer of free-range chickens, with 5,286,292 native chickens produced this year. Other top producers in the country are the provinces of Iloilo, Bukidnon, Cebu, and Palawan.
He said the free-range chickens distributed will be given to the members of farmers’ associations and multiplier farms.
He added that the provincial government disperses 400 free-range chickens every week to different localities in the province.
Meanwhile, during the visit of the governor to the facility, Dr. Placeda Lemana, chief of the Farm Management Division, gave an orientation on the activities and projects of the breeding center that include milk production, Pekin duck production, dairy cattle breeding, free-range chicken breeding, goat production, and pasture development.
He added that the facility is also a good venue for the training of the paravets.*
