The Indian community in Bacolod City has lined up several activities for the 7th Diwali Festival, or the Festival of Lights, at the Bacolod City Government Center, with the opening ceremony yesterday at SM City Bacolod.
Festival coordinator Haresh Chugani yesterday said there will be a yoga session tomorrow with the Ananda Marca, a world famous Hindu yoga group that has been here for 20 years.
Chugani said they will also have a photo exhibit at 3:30 this afternoon at the BCGC about the Hindu deities and Sikhism, the faith that the Punjabi follow.
A program will also be held at the BCGC on Saturday, where over 100 people will do the zumba on Bollywood music. An Indian movie will be shown there, and there will be lots of surprises and a lot of Indian food, he said.
Chugani said they will have a grand Diwali Ball at the SMX Convention Center in the evening, while on Sunday, they will show a Bollywood movie that has been released only in India. They will also hold a mega eye camp at the BCGC two weeks later for residents in remote areas of the city, that is expected to benefit about 1,100 people.
The Diwali Festival was first celebrated by the Filipino-Indian community in November 2013, in partnership with the Bacolod City government. Chugani was first, third, and fifth chairman of the festival.*
