LGUs upbeat on getting
bigger IRA share: Bing

Bacolod Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia said local government units (LGUs) are optimistic about receiving a bigger share from the national revenue through a “win-win” solution supported by President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We are happy that the President has agreed that we can explore all the possibilities,” he said in a press briefing Monday.

In June, the Supreme Court (SC) ruled with finality that the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share given to LGUs must be sourced from all national taxes and not only from national internal revenue taxes collected by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Maricalumís MPSA
eyed for cancellation

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is eyeing to cancel the Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) of Maricalum Mining Corporation in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, due to numerous violations of the government’s mining policies, its Western Visayas director, Francisco Milla Jr., said yesterday.

Milla said the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 6 recommended the cancellation of the MPSA, and it has already been submitted to the Office of Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu last month.

It is up to the Secretary to act on the recommendation, he added.
