P2.6 million in ‘shabu’ seized
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

About P2.6 million worth of suspected shabu was confiscated but the subject of the operation in Purok Tangigue, Barangay 1 in Bacolod City escaped, at about 11 p.m. Monday.

Ernesto Calatis escaped, but his partner, Jessel Castillo, was arrested, a police report said.

Operatives of the Bacolod City Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a buy-bust operation and seized 54 sachets of suspected shabu, including the buy-bust item, a sling bag, and P1,000 in marked money, police records show.

The recovered suspected shabu, weighing 215 grams, had an estimated street value of P2,591,000.

Castillo, who is now locked up at the custodial facility of Station 2, denied that the sachets of suspected shabu were from them.

Police Col. Henry Biñas, Bacolod City Police Office director, said yesterday that the shabu seized in Barangay 1 were supposed to be distributed during to the celebration of the MassKara Festival.

The police have noted a trend for increasing demand for illegal drugs during festivities.*
