set Oct. 12-13 at City Mall
BY NIDA A. BUENAFE

Woodpushers from different towns and cities in Negros Occidental are expected to join the 2nd MassKara Chess Festival scheduled this weekend at City Mall Mandalagan in Bacolod City.

The competition will have two categories, the Kiddies division for elementary and high school players on October 12 and the Open category the next day.

The two-day event will be played in six round Swiss System in rapid play time control of 25 minutes for each player to finish. It will adopt the FIDE international rules unless superseded by the tournament ground rules.

Event director Marvin Ting said that the tournament, launched last year, aims to popularize chess and develop new young talents from Negros Occidental, who will eventually represent the province to international competitions.*
