Three killed in Negros

A woman and two drivers have added to the list of persons killed in Negros Island since Monday.

Motorcycle-riding gunmen yesterday shot and killed the drivers of a habal-habal and a tricycle, while a woman was found dead in Basay, Negros Island.

An unidentified motorcycle riding gunman shot Joenel Tomazar, alias Boyet, in the head, at Lopez Jaena Street in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

Police investigation showed that Tomazar was repairing his tricycle in front of his residence, when the gunman disembarked from his blue Yamaha 155 motorcycle and shot Tomazar in the head.

The victim died on the spot and the suspect immediately fled to an unknown direction, the Hinigaran police said.

An empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol was recovered by the Hinigaran police at the scene of incident.

Another motorcycle-riding suspect shot and killed Gerson Alpida, a habal-habal (motorcycle) driver, yesterday along the highway of Brgy. Alangilanan in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.

Investigation of the Manjuyod police showed that the unidentified gunman, also armed with a .45 caliber pistol, approached and opened fire at Alpida, who was sitting in front of a sari-sari store. The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal injury in the head, police said.

Alpida died on the spot, Capt. Antonio Jabar, Manjuyod police chief, said in his report to the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

On Monday night, a 40-year-old woman was also shot and killed by an unidentified gunman in Purok 6, Brgy. Nagbo-alao, Basay, Negros Oriental.

PSSgt. Joel Aberia of Bayawan Police Station reported to the Basay Police Station that his relative, identified as Celnor Bukad, was shot by an unidentified suspect.

Basay policemen, who responded to the shooting incident, found the victim lying in the lawn of her residence, with gunshot injuries in her lower jaw and right thigh.

Bukad was declared dead on arrival at the Bayawan District Hospital, the Basay police said.*
