Farmersí assistance center put up
BY MARCHEL P. ESPINA

Local businessman Ramon Uy put up a farmers’ assistance center at their family-owned property in Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, to help farmers get access to information and resources.

Uy, president of R.U. Foundry and Machine Shop Corp., said yesterday that he established the Rural and Urban Farmers Assistance Center in December 2019 at May’s Organic Garden, that houses technology for organic farming, because there are still a lot of farmers who need assistance in terms of value-adding to their products, packaging, resources, and equipment.

Through the center, they can facilitate and address the needs and concerns of the farmers, he said.

More than 100 graduating senior high school students from Negros Occidental, aspiring to be college scholars of SM Foundation starting school year 2020-2021, took the qualifying examinations at the UNO-R Information Technology building in Bacolod City Wednesday, a press release from the mall said.

Greg Baclea-an, SM Foundation assistant manager for Education Programs, said that those who will be granted a scholarship will enjoy full college tuition and other benefits. “At our partner schools, a student’s choice of specialization includes accounting, information technology, engineering, and education,” he said.

This year, SM Foundation implemented the digital examination, making the process faster and more efficient. Students who passed the exam qualified for the next round or the interview, the press release said.
