Over P600M in cash aid released

The Department of Agriculture in Western Visayas already released P615.27 million in cash assistance to more than 100,000 farmers in the region.

As of June 26, the DA said 75,917 rice farmers from the provinces of Negros Occidental, Aklan, Antique, and Capiz received P414.49 million in financial subsidy.

In Iloilo, 34,910 rice farmers got P174.55 million in financial assistance, while P26.23 million from the DA’s Survival and Recovery Aid covered 1,049 farmers.

Each farmer received P5,000 one-time cash aid to buy farm inputs and other necessities.

The DA also distributed farm inputs, such as 1,196.7 kilograms of assorted vegetable seeds, and 249 native chickens to farmers in the region.

Under the DA’s Rice Resiliency Project, it distributed 290,655 bags of fertilizer, 5,341 vegetable seedlings, 39,766 packs of hybrid rice seeds, and 11,590 bags of inbred seeds.

The DA Region 6 is eyeing to increase food sufficiency in the region to ensure supply amid the coronavirus pandemic.*
