Businessman shot dead

Three suspects shot and killed a businessman in front of his business establishment at Narra Street in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, at about 5 p.m. yesterday.

Roland Tan had just boardedhis Toyota Land Cruiserthat was parked in front of Crown Agri Infinity Lending Corp. at Capitol Shopping Center when the suspects shot him at close range and escaped on foot, P/Maj. Renante Jomocan, Station 4 chief, said yesterday.

Tan was brought to the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital but he succumbed to five gunshot wounds on his face and body, Jomocan said.

Initial investigation showed that Tan, who was usually at the Crown Agri Infinity Lending Corp. at closing time, was already in his vehicle when the suspects wearing face masks approached and shot him.

Six empty shells were recovered from the crime scene, Jomocan said.

The police are still investigating the motive of the killing, he said.

Jomocan also said that they will review the closed-circuit television camera footage near the crime scene to help them in the investigation.

He said that identification of the suspects may be a challenge since everyone is required to wear face masks as part of the health protocols to combat the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).*
