A road crash occurred at Sitio Milagrosa, Barangay Nangka, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, on Sunday, resulting in the death of a motorcycle driver and injuries to 2 of his passengers.
The investigation revealed that the motorcycle with two back riders was traversing Bantayan-Bayawan Road towards Sitio Guisocon in the barangay, as a light commercial vehicle was traveling in the opposite direction.
Upon reaching a descending section of the curved road, the driver of the commercial vehicle allegedly lost control due to a brake malfunction, resulting in a collision with the motorcycle and running over the victims.
The motorcycle driver and his passengers were rushed to the hospital. The driver did not survive, while the passengers are now recovering from their injuries.
The fatality was identified as Christopher Luyas, 50-years-old and a resident of the incident area while the injured were a male minor, and Arner Lorico, of legal age.
According to the investigation, the commercial vehicle was from Bacolod City and was driven by Robnel Pastera, a resident of Murcia, Negros Occidental. The vehicle was carrying approximately 300 sacks of rice.
Based on the testimony of Roy Calibjo, one of Pastera’s helpers, five of them were inside the vehicle when the driver suddenly lost control of the brakes. He further added that they were honking the horn to signal other vehicles. However, upon reaching the curved area, the driver completely lost control, which resulted in the incident.
Pastera and the vehicle were currently under police custody for proper disposition.
Bayawan Component City Police Station said that the investigation is ongoing.*
