Ten job order employees of the San Carlos City government in Negros Occidental were dismissed after they tested positive for illegal drug use, Mayor Renato Gustilo said yesterday.
Gustilo said the 10 JOs were among the 70 to 80 employees, who underwent random drug testing last week.
He said it is a standard operating procedure of the San Carlos City government to dismiss employees found using illegal drugs.
Gustilo said he encouraged those dismissed to undergo spiritual counseling and seminar initiated by a Church-based organization in San Carlos, with the possibility that they will be rehired if they will reform.
The surprise drug testing of the San Carlos City government is done annually to ensure that none of its employees are hooked on illegal drugs, Gustilo added.
Gustilo said the JOs found positive during the surprise drug test were those assigned at the Bantay Dagat, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and City Environment Office.
He also said they are waiting for the result of the drug test conducted among City Hall employees Friday.*
