Individuals that registered to vote in the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) in the three provinces of the Negros Island Region have reached 104,132, as of August 9, according to data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Negros Occidental logged the most registrants at 62,490, Negros Oriental had 37,982 and there were 3,660 voter applicants in Siquijor.
A total of 53,992 of the registrants are female, and 50,210 are male.
The poll body started the 10-day nationwide voter registration for the 2025 BSKE on August 1, which ended on the 10th.
Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia earlier described the voter registration for the 2025 BSKE as “the most successful voter registration in history. The most in number in the shortest period.”
But a near rampage marred the voter registration at a shopping mall in Bacolod City on Aug 9, after the security group of the mall was unable to control the crowd that rushed to get first to the queue.
A female registrant was also reported to have lost consciousness because of the long wait she had to endure while in queue.
It prompted the Comelec Bacolod to request police assistance.
Mayor Greg Gasataya, who personally monitored the lining up of youthful registrants Saturday evening, ordered the putting up of two portalets and iron railings to ensure order and the safety of registrants who lined up as early as 8pm Saturday evening.
As of 12:45 on Sunday, the voter registration was smooth and orderly.*
