More than two weeks after the enforcement of the Commission on Elections gun ban, a total of 11 violators have been accounted for by and arrested the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), as of September 11.
Of the 11 violators, eight were arrested by various police units under the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, and three by the BCPO.
All over Western Visayas, the Police Regional Office 6 reported that 27 gun ban violators have been accounted for, where 25 were civilians and two were security guards.
PMaj. Mary Grace Socorro Borio, regional police spokesperson, also reported that the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office has the greatest number of arrests with eight, Iloilo Police Provincial Office – 5, Capiz PPO and Iloilo City Police Office – four each, Bacolod City Police Office – 3, Aklan PPO – 2, and one arrest was made by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6.
Seized from the violators were 21 firearms and 10 bladed weapons.
In a statement, regional police director PBrig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor lauded the accomplishments of various police units in the implementation of the Comelec gun ban.
“As promised, we will be fast in dealing with accordingly to the persons who violate the law or commit misconducts,” Villaflor said.*
