More than 79,000 or 11 percent of the total target population in Negros Oriental have been fully vaccinated while 68,318 vaccinees received their first dose, as of Tuesday.

Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force incident commander, Dr. Liland Estacion, said the province targets to fully vaccinate around 879,365 to achieve herd immunity.

Estacion said more persons will be accommodated as 10,000 Sinovac and 14,900 Moderna vaccines arrived Monday from the national Emergency Operations Center for the province, and another 5,000 doses of Sinovac for Dumaguete City, a government press release said yesterday.

With this, health workers, senior citizens, and those with co-morbidities who have not yet been vaccinated are encouraged to register or submit themselves for vaccination against Covid-19 amid the threat of the more transmissible Delta variant.

“We urge senior citizens to come any time and get vaccinated, as they are vulnerable to the virus and their vaccination rate remains very low,” Estacion said.

Qualified individuals are also encouraged to register with their respective local government units.

She advised individuals not to be choosy with the vaccine brand, emphasizing the importance of getting vaccinated immediately against the virus.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office continues the rollout at its mega vaccination center at Macias Sports Center for the second dose of Sinovac and first dose for Moderna.

Vaccines donated under the Covax facility should be given only to persons under the A1, A2, A3, and A5 categories, but if the vaccine is purchased by the government, it would be administered on Negrenses under the A4 category as well.

“However, it is the discretion of the LGUs to use it because we cannot always wait for the qualified residents, but the instruction from DOH is we will not vaccinate the A4 yet until the target number of senior citizens or A2 will be increased,” Estacion.

DELTA VARIANT

The Negros Oriental Inter-Agency Task Force against Covid-19 has also called for stricter border control points in land, air, and sea to prevent the entry of a deadlier and more contagious Delta variant.

At least 18 border control checkpoints have been set up in land boundaries, including seaports and airport, to prevent the entry of restricted travelers without proper documents.

While Covid-19 cases in the province have been declining, Gov. Roel Degamo said the local task force has to tighten travel restrictions as part of the strategies due to the threat of the Delta variant.

“What we are doing now is to enhance the border controls to prevent the Covid-19 from entering the province. I have already directed the PNP and the Philippine Army to undertake the task and we are thankful to them as well as the LGUs for continuing the work,” the governor said.

Travelers, including authorized persons outside residence, arriving in Negros Oriental have to follow the province’s health protocols or requirements, such as registering in the S-PaSS.

Through the S-PaSS app, unvaccinated travelers are required to upload their negative RT-PCR result, while fully vaccinated travelers need to submit a negative antigen test result and their vaccination card.

The seaport composite team, led by the Philippine Coast Guard, has been stationed in nine ports in the province, namely the Dumaguete City Port, Ducomi in Bacong, Malatapay Wharf in Zamboanguita, Tan-Juan in Brgy. Looc in Sibulan, the Sibulan Wharf, Maayo Shipping Port in Brgy. Tampi in Amlan, Bulado Wharf in Guihulngan City, the Bais City Wharf, and Bayawan City Wharf.

Aside from manning the border checkpoints, the PCG also conducts activities at the Malasakit Health Desk, coastal security control, and pre-departure inspections.

The police and Army composite team is also operating in several border control points, namely, the Bayawan route from Bantayan national highway Kabankalan, Negros Occidental entering Bayawan City, Guihulngan City, route check from Brgy.
