Heavy rains and flooding caused by the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Typhoon Egay, damaged 668 houses and affected 12,800 families, composed of 51,136 individuals in Negros Occidental, according to reports of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), as of July 26.
The report also said that Bago City reported damage to agriculture valued at P3,894,808.
PSWDO officer Chiqui Gonzales said 12 of the 31 LGUs in the province were affected by the monsoon rains and flooding. A total of 86 barangays in the province were affected, according to reports of the Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office.
Gonzales said their office distributed 1,600 food packs, augmented by their respective LGUs.
Our priority are the evacuees staying in evacuation sites, she said.
The provincial government of Negros Occidental and the capital city of Bacolod continued to suspend work in their respective offices on Wednesday.
Other LGUs that declared suspension of work in government offices and classes in schools are Murcia, EB Magalona, and the cities of Kabankalan, Silay, Talisay, Cadiz, Himamaylan, and Victorias.
