Thirteen people, including a minor, were injured after a traditional jeepney overturned following a collision with a Toyota Hilux at the intersection of Gatuslao Street and South Capitol Road, Bacolod City, yesterday.
According to Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of the Bacolod Traffic Enforcement Unit, the Toyota Hilux was traveling from west to east when it struck the rear portion of a Bata-Libertad route jeepney moving from north to south.
The impact, allegedly caused by the pickup truck’s high speed, caused the jeepney to tip onto its side.
The jeepney driver and its 12 passengers sustained various injuries.
Emergency responders transported the victims to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.
While some passengers were discharged after receiving first aid for minor injuries, others remain under medical observation.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux, identified as 26-year-old alias ‘Annvil,’ was unharmed but is currently in the custody of Bacolod Police Station 2.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, with the Hilux showing heavy impact on its front bumper.*
