It’s already back to schools for students and teachers, as well as workers at local government units today in some LGUs of Negros Occidental, after Super Typhoon Karding continues to weaken and exit the country.

The flashfloods in low lying areas of the province were blamed on the enhanced southwest monsoon that brought torrential rains.

A report of the Provincial Incident Management Team said that 134 families in Cauayan and Sipalay City were evacuated due to flooding.

Cauayan Mayor John Rey Tabujara yesterday said that almost all families that evacuated to higher grounds have already returned to their respective homes.

Board Member Julius Martin Asistio, chair of the Philippine Councilor’s League – Negros Occidental chapter, responded to the call for help by his fellow councilors in Cauayan by sending canned goods for affected families, according to Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer.

As of last night, EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon, Hinobaan Mayor Daph Reliquias, Sipalay City Gina Montilla-Lizares, Bago City Nicholas Yulo, Kabankalan City Mayor Benjie Miranda, and Isabela Mayor Irene Montilla yesterday have issued orders for the lifting of class suspensions and work in government offices in their respective LGUs.

The Philippine Coast Guard also lifted yesterday the suspension of sea travel bound for Batangas and Manila, via the BREDCO Port in Bacolod City.

PIMT reported that 80 percent of the Punta Baras barasan Dike in Brgy. Manlucahoc, Sipalay City, was damaged, including the 62.97 hectares of agricultural crops.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz yesterday said that the provincial government is sending assistance to the affected families.*
