Fourteen volcanic earthquakes were recorded Friday at Kanlaon Volcano over a period of 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on Sunday.
PHIVOLCS also recorded an ash emission event which lasted for a minute. On Dec. 6, it logged six more ash emissions events from the volcano’s crater.
The volcano also emitted 3,891 tonnes of sulfur dioxide, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin.
Meanwhile, moderate plumes rising up to 200 meters tall were observed from Kanlaon’s crater, indicating continuous degassing. The plumes drifted westward.
PHIVOLCS said the edifice of Kanlaon Volcano remains inflated.
Level 2 (increased unrest) remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano, which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
PHIVOLCS reminded the public that entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone is not allowed.*
