The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region is deploying 145 police personnel to secure the activities of the Negros Island Region Athletics Association (NIRAA), which will kick off on February 28 and run until March 7.
PLt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of PRO-NIR, disclosed that police personnel will provide comprehensive security coverage throughout the duration of the event, including in playing venues, billeting areas, and other event sites, maintaining order and assisting as needed to safeguard the safety and well-being of athletes, officials, spectators, and the general public.
The deployment, according to Malong, will feature a visible personnel presence, strategic monitoring, and rapid response readiness, with PRO-NIR working closely with local government units and the Department of Education to ensure a safe, secure, and well-organized environment throughout the event.
All necessary measures have been taken to anticipate challenges, prevent risks, and ensure that the NIRAA activities are conducted safely and without incident, she added.
Five cities in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod, will host the first-ever NIRAAM.
Both Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are aiming to win the championship.
The sports events include archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball 3×3 and 5×5, billiards, boxing, chess, dancesport, football, futsal, gymnastics, goal ball, bocce, para athletics, paraswimming, pencak silat, pickleball, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu and cheerdance.*
