The City Legal Office Enforcement Unit closed 15 stalls out of 22 establishments at the Manokan Country in Bacolod City noontime yesterday for failure to settle their accounts with the Bacolod City Government.
Some of the stall owners were however able to pay a certain amount in compliance with the compromise agreement they have signed with the City Treasurer’s Office, regarding the settlement of arrears with the city except for New Paz, owned by Manokan Country Vendors Association president David Montoya.
Montoya said he was not able to meet the deadline given them noontime yesterday because he had work and also failed to have some documents notarized. He will be settling his account with the CTO early today.
During their meeting with Councilor Celia Flor they were told to sign a compromise agreement by October 1. But since the CTO was closed because Oct. 1 was a Saturday, they were only able to pay yesterday, he said.
Under the compromise agreement, they were given 26 months to fully settle their accounts with the city. Since his total account is P650,000, he is supposed to pay P25,000 a month, Montoyo said.
The Manokan Country stall owners still have more than P7 million in arrearages with the city government.*
