155 drug arrests yield P25.7M shabu in WV

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The arrest of 155 drug suspects within a 15-day period in Western Visayas resulted in the confiscation of 3.7 kilos of suspected shabu with a market value of P25.7 million, according to a report of the Police Regional Office 6.

Among the neutralized drug suspects, 58 were arrested by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, while the Bacolod City Police Office accounted for 21 drug personalities, the report added.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office also arrested 27 drug suspects, Iloilo City Police Office – 16, Capiz PPo – 11, Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 6 – 10, Guimaras PPO – 7, Aklan PPO – 3, and two for Antique PPO.

While he lauded the performance of all police units, PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, regional police director, urged them in a statement to increase the intensity of their campaign against illegal drugs.

Among the units, the Bacolod City Police Office recovered the most illegal drugs, totalling around 1,310 grams of suspected shabu, amounting to P8.9 million.

It was followed by the RPDEU 6 with seizure of about 928 grams of shabu valued at P6.3 million, and Iloilo PPO with the confiscation of an estimated 814 grams worth P5.5 million.

This was the result of 122 anti-drug operations conducted from July 1 to 15, the report added.

“May the result of our endeavor serve as a warning to the remaining illegal drug pedders to stop outright. If you opt to continue, surely the arms of the law will catch up with you,” Wanky said.*
