The police have recorded 16 deaths and 75 injuries, as a result of vehicular collisions in highly urbanized Bacolod City, from January to September 5 this year.
In a report, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) logged 270 reckless imprudence incidents, which involved 95 motorcycles, 89 cars, 31 trucks, 19 public utility vehicles (PUVs), 10 tricycles, four E bikes, and one bicycle.
Among the incidents, 179 were classified by BCPO as damage to property, 75 resulted in physical injuries and 16 led to homicide, or death.
The BCPO, in a statement, said the significant number of physical injuries and fatalities underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and public vigilance.
It also urged all drivers to take proactive steps to avoid becoming victims of traffic incidents, by always adhering to traffic rules, avoid distracted driving, practice defensive driving, regular vehicle maintenance, and wearing of seatbelts.
While the BCPO is committed to enhancing road safety and reducing traffic incidents through increased patrols and enforcement of traffic regulations, it also urged public cooperation in order to create a safer driving environment for everyone.*
