The Provincial Veterinary Office reported the rescue of 167 animals from the 6-kilometer permanent danger zone at La Castellana in Negros Occidental.
Provincial Veterinary Office head Placeda Lemana, in her report to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, disclosed that the PVO Quick Response Team complied with the order of the governor that “no animals should be left behind.”
The evacuated animals, mostly goats and carabaos, were evacuated from the barangays of Cabagna and Biak Na Bato, and brought to the Colegio de La Castellana grounds in the municipality.
At the same time, PVO recorded the deaths of a carabao, cattle, goats and fighting cocks in the cities of Bago, La Carlota and La Castellana.
The 6-kilometer permanent danger zone at Kanlaon volcano is now off limits to its residents.
PCapt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said the police established checkpoints along the major roads to ensure that nobody will enter the PDZ.*
