17.2K new cases, 5.5K recoveries

The Department of Health yesterday reported 5,595 new recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019.

In its Covid-19 bulletin, the agency said this brings the total recovery tally to 1,653,351 or 91.5 percent of a total of 1,807,800 recorded infections in the country since the start of the health crisis.

However, the country also saw its highest daily number of cases, with 17,231 new infections.

This brought the total number of active cases to 123,251 or 6.8 percent of all cases.

Of these active cases, the majority at 94.1 percent are showing mild symptoms, followed by the asymptomatic at 3.2 percent, those with severe symptoms at 1.2 percent, those with moderate symptoms at 0.86 percent, and those in critical condition at 0.7 percent.

New deaths were reported at 317, with the country’s death toll now at 31,198, or 1.73 percent of all Covid-19 infections in the country.

Based on the latest data on Covid-19 testing, 64,934 tests were administered on Wednesday, with 26.1 percent found to be infected.

Meanwhile, health care utilization in the National Capital Region is rising, with its 1,400 beds at intensive care units at 74 percent occupancy, 4,600 isolation beds at 61 percent occupancy, 4,100 ward beds at 70 percent occupancy, and 57 percent of 1,100 ventilators are currently in use.

In the entire country, there are 4,100 ICU beds at 73 percent occupancy, 20,100 isolation beds at 61 percent occupancy, 14,200 ward beds at 66 percent occupancy, and 52 percent of 3,100 ventilators are currently in use.*PNA
