A seventeen-year-old neophyte at drag racing from Bacolod City made his debut at the MassKara TRL PRO Drag Racing Competition on Sunday at the BREDCO Port reclamation area as he finished third in the class D category.
Jared Nicavera, the lone Bacolodnon and the youngest racer to enter the top three of the category, drove his daily-use Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, going wheel-to-wheel against seasoned competitors from Cebu and Iloilo, an extraordinary achievement for a neophyte in the sport.
A car enthusiast and former motorcycle racer who is a member of the KambyaDos Racing Team from Bacolod City, Nicavera first made his mark in local motorcycle competitions during the pandemic era.
Shifting from two wheels to four, he carried that same determination, combined with his skills and sharp mind onto the drag strip, proving that passion and precision can outpace experience.
“I just wanted to experience the thrill of racing. Using my everyday truck made it even more special. It’s not about having the fastest car, it’s about how you handle it and how much heart you bring to the race,” he expressed.
Mark Diolera of RQUICK in Cebu and Mark Fernandez of TVR in Iloilo completed the podium as first and second placers, respectively.
The MassKara TRL PRO Drag Racing gathered top racers and teams from Bacolod, Cebu, and Iloilo, drawing large crowds as part of the MassKaralympics sporting event that is part of the 46th MassKara Festival.*
