BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Police Regional Office 6 is deploying 1,700 police personnel to ensure the orderly and peaceful observance of the Lenten Season, starting Palm Sunday on April 10, all over Western Visayas.

This was after PBrig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo, regional police director of Western Visayas, ordered all PNP units across the region to operationalize their respective public safety plans and security measures.

During this season it is expected that both local and foreign tourists will flock to visit churches, resorts, malls, terminals and similar places, and traffic congestion in some identified areas is expected.

Dongbo said that the 1,700 police personnel are also expected to be augmented by force multipliers of the different local government units.

“We appeal to the general public especially to those who will be travelling and leaving their homes to ensure that these are closed, no appliances are unattended or unplugged, and avoid having real-time posting in their social media account of their whereabouts”, he added.

Among the security measures to be implemented by the PNP includes deployment of police personnel in identified strategic areas to prevent the occurrence of crimes and to protect the public from falling victim to lawless elements.

Dongbo said that motorists should expect the conduct of random checkpoints by the PNP, with Police Assistance Desks to be put in bus terminals to address concerns to be raised by travelers.*
