18 dengue-related deaths logged in NegOcc, Bacolod

Negros Occidental, including highly-urbanized Bacolod City, has logged 18 dengue-related deaths as the number of cases continue to rise in the province.

From January 1 to October 12 this year, dengue cases in the 31 towns and cities of Negros Occidental has risen further to 4,922 cases, with 14 deaths.

That is an increase of 295.05 percent, from only 1,210 cases recorded during the same period last year.

The death toll remains at four in Bacolod City, with cases up by 297.8 percent for the first 10 months of the year, according to a report from the City Health Office (CHO).

The CHO logged 1,802 cases, with four probable deaths, compared to 445 cases with three fatalities last year.

In Negros Occidental, the local government units with the most dengue cases are Bago City – 534, Hinobaan – 392, San Carlos City – 372, Sagay City – 327, Talisay City – 308, Kabankalan City – 313, Sipalay City – 270, Cadiz City – 276, Silay City – 265, and Cauayan – 268.

In Bacolod, Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment Sanitation Division, noted that the majority of those affected by dengue are individuals with ages between one and 19 years old.*
