2 charged with Bacolod teen’s rape-slay

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN / THERESA MAE DULMAN

Seven months after the molestation and killing of 17-year-old Freya Mae Go in October last year, police have filed rape with homicide charges against two suspects before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office on May 29.

The persistent and methodological police work, according to the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, led to the identification and filing of charges against the two suspects, with aliases of Jac and Bry, who are both residents of Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City.

The charges stemmed from the extensive investigation conducted by PRO NIR into the death of the victim, an on-the-job trainee (OJT) at AVA Construction Supply in Bacolod City.

Go’s victim’s lifeless body was discovered at a vacant lot within the reclamation area of Barangay 12, Bacolod City, on October 22 last year. She was found hogtied and stripped of her underwear.

The autopsy indicated the Go died of asphyxiation by strangulation and showed signs of sexual abuse.

Bacolod City Police Office Director PCol. Eugene Rebadomia said the police initially identified six initial ‘persons of interest’ before securing enough evidence to pin the crime on the two direct suspects.

Determined to bring those responsible to justice, investigators pursued every lead, meticulously gathered evidence, conducted in-depth case build-up operations, and worked closely with the prosecution service. These sustained efforts ultimately resulted in the filing of charges against the identified respondents, bringing the case a significant step closer to judicial resolution, a statement from PRO-NIR said.

PBrig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR acting regional director, commended the investigators and personnel involved for their dedication, professionalism, and perseverance throughout the course of the investigation.

“The filing of this case demonstrates PRO NIR’s unwavering resolve to ensure that perpetrators of heinous crimes are held accountable, Cardiño added.*
