2 die in accidents

A teenager and a tricycle driver were killed in separate accidents in the cities of Bacolod and San Carlos, Negros Occidental yesterday and Wednesday.

The police identified the fatalities as John Ray Cabalhin, 15 of Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod and Andresito Pernas Jr., 50, of Brgy. 1, San Carlos City.

Initial investigation showed that the Red Fuso Dump Truck driven by Renante Tanjay, 31 of Brgy. Macasilao, Calatrava town was heading south of C.L. Ledesma Avenue in San Carlos City at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when he encountered mechanical trouble.

Tanjay decided to swerve the truck to the left side of the road but lost control when the tricycle driven by Pernas suddenly appeared, the police said.

The truck then fell on its side pinning the tricycle resulted in the immediate death of Pernas and injury to his passenger Rodolfo Gatungay, Jr. who was rushed to the San Carlos City Hospital, where he is now recuperating.

Meanwhile, Cabalfin while being treated at the Metro Bacolod Hospital after he was pinned down by the truck driven by his father Bobby, 45, that fell on its side adown while traversing the Granada-Alangilan road at about 10 a.m. yesterday.

P/Staff Sgt Winston Sun, investigator on case said, the truck’s brake malfunctioned causing the elder Cabalfin to lose control over it, hit the roadside side gutter before finally falling on its side.*
