2 drown in northern Negros

BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Two persons were reported by the police on June 19 to have been drowned in Calatrava and San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The lifeless body of Romeo Era, alias Ongoy, 31, was found floating at the territorial waters of Brgy, Suba, Calatrava, and was reported by Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Carmelo Cabatana to the town police.

Police investigations show that a certain Gilbert Villacuatro discovered the floating cadaver of Era, who then asked the help of other fishermen to report it to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for its recovery.

Era was traced by the police to have been a resident of Brgy. Bandila, Toboso, Negros Occidental.

Based on the results of autopsy, drowning was the cause of death of the victim, whose eardrum was found ruptured.

Meanwhile, the lifeless body of a 70-year-old fisherman identified by the police as Jesus Navalis was found along the shorelines of Barrio Dos in Brgy. Guadalope, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Prior to the discovery of his body, Navalis was last seen alive and fishing along the shoreline on the night of June 18, police said.*
