The bodies of two drowning victims were discovered separately and retrieved yesterday by members of a search and rescue group in a river connecting Moises Padilla and Isabela, Negros Occidental.
First to be found was the body of Danilo Bana-ag, 17, at the Binalbagan River in Brgy. Guinpana-an, Moises Padilla, while the body of his uncle, Roldan Bana-ag Sr, was discovered at the Bongahin River in Isabela, Negros Occidental, P/Capt. Hancel Lumandaz, Moises Padilla police chief, yesterday said.
Danilo and his uncle, as well as his mother, Juvelyn, Edmund Samson and cousin Roldan Bana-ag Jr., on board two tricycles were crossing an overflow when they were carried away by a flash flood in Brgy. Montilla, Moises Padilla, Reynald Horegue, Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office head, said.
Roldan Jr. survived the incident.
Horegue said that the victims, who are residents of Brgy. Gargato, Hinigaran, and six other members of their family, who had used a hanging bridge in crossing the overflow, were on their way to Sitio Cabayabasan, Brgy. Guinpana-an, Moises Padilla, when the incident took place Tuesday afternoon.
Lumandaz said that the search and retrieval operations for the missing victims were still underway as of press time.
Two weeks ago, three teenagers also drowned after being swept away by strong current, while swimming at the Simulong River in Brgy. Abkasa, Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, a certain Carmelito Garzon, 52, died, after he was hit by lightning on Monday in Brgy. Cabatangan, Talisay City, police said.*
