• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) arrested two suspects and recovered unlicensed revolvers in separate operations targeting loose firearms on February 26 and 27, in Negros Occidental and Oriental, respectively.

The first raid took place in Barangay Cambarus, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, where a 65-year-old farmer identified as alias ‘Jer’ was apprehended.

Following reports of the suspect making threats, police executed a search warrant and seized a .38 caliber revolver without serial number and four rounds of ammunition.

In a follow-up operation, Pamplona police and a SWAT team conducted a pre-dawn raid in Barangay Mangoto, Negros Oriental.

Authorities arrested alias ‘Joe,’ 47, who reportedly brandished a firearm during a confrontation.

Police recovered a .38 caliber revolver, five rounds of ammunition, and a belt bag.

Both suspects are currently in  custody and face charges for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

PRO NIR stated that the operations are part of a sustained campaign to neutralize armed threats and dismantle illegal firearm possession across the region.*
