2 killed in motorcycle crashes

A personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was killed in a road crash at around 4:05 a.m. on Saturday along the National Highway of Purok Dahug, Barangay Tabunan, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Killed was Patrolman Jolu Otero, a 28-year-old police officer assigned to the 2nd platoon of the Negros Occidental Police Mobile Force Company, and a resident of Carlota City.

Initial investigation revealed that the Yamaha NMAX motorcycle driven by Otero was traversing the route from Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City, to Barangay Abuanan, Bago City, and upon reaching the place of incident, he hit the rear portion of an unidentified truck which was travelling in the same direction.

As a result of the said incident, Otero sustained several serious injuries and was rushed to the nearest hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

Police reported that the truck involved in the incident did not stop after the incident and continued moving forward. Authorities are conducting an investigation to identify the truck and the driver.

BACOLOD CRASH

In Bacolod City, a 28-year-old motorcycle rider died early Sunday morning, after his scooter collided with an SUV at the intersection of Burgos and Lacson Streets at around 3 a.m. in Barangay 19.

The victim, identified as alias ‘Scotch,’ 28, a resident of Barangay Poblacion 1, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, was driving the motorcycle.

The driver of the SUV, identified as alias ‘Zhiyong,’ is a Chinese National temporarily residing in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, and is currently in police custody.

According to initial investigation reports from the Traffic Management Unit, the collision occurred at the intersection.

Due to the high impact, the motorcycle driver sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

The SUV driver remains detained at Bacolod Police Station 1, pending the final disposition of the case.*
