Two pregnant amazon rebels were rescued, while two other regular members of the New People’s Army surrendered to the Philippine Army and police on December 18 in Siaton, Negros Oriental.

Lt. Col. Michael Aquino, commander of the Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion, disclosed that the two pregnant rebel amazons, identified only through their aliases Sarah and Aubrey, were rescued by 11th Infantry Battalion and 705th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 in Sitio Katubahan, Brgy. Tayak in Santa Catalina town.

Sarah was reported by the 11IB as a member of Squad 3 and Taxation Team, while Aubrey served as a member of the Educational and Finance Staff, as well assistant political officer, both remnants of the dismantled South East Front under the supervision of Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor.

In a statement, Aquino said that Sarah is five months pregnant, while Aubrey is nine months pregnant.

Two other remnants of the South East Front, identified only through their aliases Ka Delfin and Ka Bombo, also surrendered to the 11th Infantry Battalion Community Support Team in Brgy. Milagrosa, Santa Catalina, on Dec. 17.

Ka Delfin surrendered an M16 assault rifle with two magazines containing ammunition, a rifle grenade and a bandoleer, while Ka Bombo turned over a caliber .38 revolver with ammunition to the IB, Aquino said.

The two pregnant rebel amazons were transported by the 11IB medical team and Siaton Police Station, led by PMaj. Danilo Santillan, for a medical checkup at the Lamberto Macias Memorial Hospital in Siaton, Negros Oriental.

Aquino said the four rebel personalities will be enrolled into the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the government, to avail of government benefits intended for former rebels.*
