200 UNegA members to attend general assembly

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

About 200 members of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) are expected to attend its general assembly on September 7 in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, three weeks before the start of the filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections, which will be from October 1 to 8.

Expected to be tackled during the UNegA general assembly are the party’s candidates, from the provincial level down to cities and municipalities.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, the UNegA secretary general, said at least 150 to 200 of their members in Negros Occidental are attending the general assembly.

Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, UNegA president, earlier said that they will invite Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, a Love Negros member, to their general assembly, which they also did before.

UNegA and Love Negros have established a coalition since the 2019 elections.

Ferrer announced earlier that he will run for the Negros Occidental 4th congressional post, while the position of vice governor which he will vacate, will be filled up by Board Member Jose Benito Alonso, which was earlier announced by Abang Lingkod partylist Rep. Stephen Joseph Paduano.

Board Member Manuel Frederick Ko was also endorsed to run as the first nominee of the Abang Lingkod party list group, which will be vacated by Paduano, whose term ends June 30 next year.

On the other hand, Escalante said their oath taking as new Lakas CMD members, including that of Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante Jr., and other vice mayors, as well as councilors affiliated with other political parties, slated for September 4, was postponed due to inclement weather conditions.

Toboso Mayor Madonnah Jaojoco is also joining Lakas CMD, Manapla Mayor Escalante disclosed earlier.*
