Negros cop gets medal
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A former police chief of Sagay City, Negros Occidental, was among the 12 police personnel in Western Visayas, who were honored and conferred with medals by PNP chief Camilo Pancratius Cascolan during his visit yesterday to the Police Regional Office 6 in Iloilo City.

The recipient was P/Maj. Antonio Benitez, former Sagay City police chief, who led the 53 police personnel from the Police Regional Office 6, deployed in Cebu City, to help fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Cascolan cited Benitez for his outstanding leadership and operational accomplishments, and for displaying exemplary performance, amidst COVID 19 pandemic.

The PRO 6 contingent stayed in Cebu City for two months and 14 days, before they were recalled back to Western Visayas, after the spread of COVID 19 in Cebu City became manageable.

Because of their assignment in Cebu, two of the 53 WV police personnel were infected by the virus. But they have already recovered and have returned to duty.

More than 100 police personnel in Western Visayas were tested positive for COVID 19, although 76 of them have already recovered.*GPB
