6 newbie cops charged
for drinking spree
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

It is still uncertain if the six neophyte policewomen from Negros Occidental, who were arrested Saturday in Sara, Iloilo, for drinking in a public place, will be retained or not in the police service.

Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6, said yesterday that the six policewomen, who are among those undergoing Basic Internal Security Operations Course (BISOC) at Camp Jalandoni in Sara, Iloilo, were already charged in court by the local PNP for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code, or resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, in relation to an approved ordinance of the town that prohibits drinking of liquor in public places.

The policewomen are now being restricted at Camp Jalandoni in Sara, Iloilo, after they were released from the Sara police custodial facility Monday, following the lapse of the 12-hour reglementary period of detention.

Malong said they are still waiting for the result of the investigations being conducted by the Regional Special Training Unit 6, before they can start the conduct of a hearing on administrative charges against them.

The BISOC training is the last requirement for them to be integrated into the mobile force units of the PNP, or assigned in police stations.

Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan, regional police director of Western Visayas, already issued an order for them to be relieved from RSTU 6 and transferred to Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City, pending the resolution of the cases filed against them.*
