Fire destroyed 53 houses and damaged four others on Tuesday in Barangay Zone 5, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The hour-long fire resulted in the temporary dislocation of 57 families, composed of 213 individuals, according to the Talisay City government.

Initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire and Protection indicated that the fire, which destroyed and damaged small houses made of light materials, may have been caused by a faulty electrical connection.

SFO4 Jessie Dequilato, Talisay City Fire Marshal, placed the estimated value of the damage at more than P500,000.

The victims of the fire are temporarily staying at the Talisay City gym.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office has extended initial assistance to the fire victims, upon the instruction of Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares.

The Angels’ Wings Foundation chaired by Atty. Rowena Lopez Lizares, the wife of Mayor Neil Lizares who is running to replace him in the upcoming elections, also extended food assistance to the fire victims.*
