The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division is beefing up its infantry units stationed in Western and Central Visayas with 239 more neophyte soldiers in the anti-insurgency campaign and ongoing COVID-19 efforts.

Maj. Cenon Pancito III, chief of the 3ID Public Affairs Office, yesterday said that the 239 new soldiers completed the five-month rigid basic military training at Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz, as facilitated by the 3ID Training School.

Pancito said that the newly enlisted soldiers formally joined the ranks of 3ID through a graduation ceremony, a time-honored tradition in the military service that highlights the transition from then carefree civilian life to a regimented profession in service to the flag and the Filipino people.

Maj. Gen. Eric Vinoya, 3ID commanding general, in his message, challenged the newly enlisted privates to always do good and value soldiery to the highest level.

“Much has always been required in the profession of arms, ours is no easy job. As soldiers, we need to sacrifice a lot, thus, my call to you is to meet the expectations of true service to God, country and people,” Vinoya said in a statement.

The ceremony was attended by Professor Mary Ann Gumban, University of the Philippines-Visayas Vice Chancellor for Administration, who was the guest of honor and speaker.

Gumban also led the ceremonial entrustment of firearms to the newly-enlisted soldiers.*
