• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Police Regional Office 6 reported that 2,591 violators of illegal gambling have been arrested in Western Visayas, in six months of police operations.

PMaj. Grace Socorro Borio, regional police spokesperson, said the arrest of 2,591 violators, following 814 police operations, also resulted to the confiscation of P595,290 in cash bets.

The anti-illegal gambling operations of the police included on-line sabong.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, acting WV police director, emphasized that PNP’s one-strike policy remains in effect, as police commanders will be relieved if illegal gambling operations are discovered in their respective areas.

Villaflor stressed that timely information provided by the community, coupled with intelligence driven operations, are the two best weapons in the fight against illegal gambling.*
