27.5K NIR tricycle drivers get fuel subsidy

The Department of Social Welfare and Development reported the distribution of P137,295,000 in fuel subsidy to 27,549 tricycle drivers in Negros Island Region, as of April 8.

In a report, DSWD said it is targeting to distribute fuel subsidies of P5,000 each to 28,584 tricycle drivers across the region.

With this development, DSWD has already achieved 96.06 percent accomplishment in the distribution of fuel subsidy to identified beneficiaries.

A total of 1,125 tricycle drivers have yet to claim the cash relief assistance from DSWD.

The distribution of fuel subsidy were held in cities of Bacolod, Bago, Cadiz, Escalante, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, La Carlota, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, Sipalay, Talisay, and Victorias in Negros Occidental, as well as cities of Bais, Bayawan, Canlaon, Dumaguete, Guihulngan, and Tanjay in Negros Oriental.

The fuel subsidy program is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to extend support to public utility drivers, particularly those in the informal sector such as tricycle operators, who remain among the most affected by fuel price fluctuations.*
