The Commission on Elections expects about two million registered voters to vote in the May next year elections, making Negros Occidental among the richest voting populations all over the country.
Included in the list of top five vote rich provinces, outside National Capital Region, during the previous elections are Cebu, Cavite, Pangasinan, Laguna and Negros Occidental.
Provincial Comelec supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria yesterday said that they have already completed the November 10 hearing of the Election Registration Board, with final verification to be conducted next week by the poll agency.
Presently, there are 1.9 million Negrense registered voters. But he said that the final number of voters in Negros Occidental is expected to be released November 18.
Ananoria advised voters should check their names in the master list if its officially released already by the COMELEC to avoid confusion during the election day.
He also said that the COMELEC will also make adjustments because of the pandemic by limiting the number of voters in a classroom.
The Comelec earlier announced that the voting period for the May 9, 2022 elections will run from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., an hour longer than the last general polls.*
