Bacolod recorded 31 new cases of Covid-19 yesterday, the highest number of infection in a day since November last year.

Emergency Operations Center Deputy for medical and data analysis Dr. Chris Sorongon said that of the 31 infections, 30 are local cases while one is an authorized person outside of residence (APOR).

He said that out of the 61 baranggays in the city, 32 have active cases.

Department of Health in Region 6 records showed that there are now 223 active cases in Bacolod.

As the trend shows that Covid cases in Bacolod are on the rise, Sorongon said strict enforcement of minimum health protocol should be imposed especially on hotels, restaurants, malls and other crowded places.

He said contact tracers from the Department of Interior and Local Government, the City Business Processing and Licensing Office and other sanitary inspectors continuously monitor the places visited by those who have been tested positive.

Sorongon added that people showing covid symptoms are encouraged to undergo testing.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections in Bacolod will be shut down effective yesterday  for three days to give way for disinfection.

This, after one of its staff members tested positive for Covid, Negros Occidental Provincial COMELEC Supervisor Ma. Fatima Aspan, said.

Aspan said those who came in close contact with the employee have been swabbed already.*
