The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Bacolod has placed 314 puroks in Bacolod City under ‘Red Zone’ status due to high fire risk.
Senior Fire Insurance Inspector Jemarie Tapiru, the Deputy City Fire Marshal, announced the classification following a Memorandum of Understanding signing at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Under the MOU, an ‘Adopt a Red Zone’ was initiated which facilitates the turnover of fire extinguishers, fire hoses, alarms, and radios to Punong Barangays donated by the city government.
Through the setup, the BFP also allows private companies to adopt high-risk barangays and provide the necessary equipment for fire suppression.
The specific barangays identified in the initial red zone list include Barangays 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 14, 27, 39, Banago, and Singcang-Airport.
Several private entities have already expressed support for the program, including the Red Ribbon Bacolod Commissary, Pepsi Cola Products Philippines, Inc., Shell Pilipinas Corporation, San Miguel Bacolod Brewery, Bacolod Triumph Hardware, Vallacar Transit Inc., and CM & Sons Food Products Inc.*
