Thirty-five families, composed of 114 persons, were displaced by fire that hit a residential area in Sitio Dacutan Daku, Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental.
The fire destroyed 26 houses and partially damaged eight others.
Mayor Joedith Gallego yesterday assured affected families of financial assistance, on top of 10 kilos of rice, canned goods and noodles, as well as blankets they have received from the city government.
The origin of fire and damage has yet to be determined by the Bureau of Fire and Protection.
Last year, 36 houses were also destroyed by fire in the same barangay.*
