A four-year-old boy from Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City succumbed to dengue on August 15, bringing the total number of deaths related to dengue to five.
The fatality, who was supposed to celebrate his fifth birthday on August 31, was admitted to a hospital on August 14, four days after he started experiencing on-and-off fever, associated with abdominal pain and vomiting.
Laboratory results showed that he tested positive for dengue, records from the Bacolod City Health Office showed.
The total number of dengue cases in Bacolod City from January 1 to August 16 was 743, or a decrease of 12 percent compared to the same period last year, which had a total of 863 cases and three deaths.
The barangays with the most number of dengue cases are Mansilingan with 78, Taculing – 61, Tangub – 48, Estefania – 47, Vista Alegre – 44, Alijis – 40, Villamonte – 37, Mandalagan – 36, Sum-ag – 32, and Brgy. 1 – 31.*
